Avery Dennison unfolds four major transforming innovations at Labelexpo 2011

Visitors to the Avery Dennison booth at Labelexpo 2011 will experience more innovations than ever before. The company presents four large scale industry-transforming innovations which are bringing a whole new perspective to labeling. Additionally, Avery Dennison will launch over half a dozen new segment specific innovations and share some “sneak peaks” at exciting new concepts on the edge of market-readiness. This wave of new label and packaging innovations is a direct result of Avery Dennison’s recently initiated collaborative innovation strategy, which has accelerated and enhanced its product development.

“Over the last 18 months we have drastically changed the way we approach innovation in our company under the name ‘Labeling Redefined’. By opening up our innovation process to and connecting with key strategic partners in the industry such as converters, designers and machine manufacturers, we are generating real game changing and relevant technologies much faster,” says Henrik Kajueter, Vice President Marketing Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials Europe.

Machine and Materials
Strategic partnerships with machine manufacturers have opened up an unlimited range of new applications for Avery Dennison. The Curve Appeal™ system, featuring Fasson Curvy™ film, provides labels that can be applied to curved surfaces far beyond what is currently possible, creating unique bottles and containers to maximize shelf appeal. The ‘Machine and Materials’ innovation strategy has solved another long lasting industry challenge: the liner caliper. Avery Dennison and Gallus will launch a revolutionary new technology at the show that cuts liner caliper into an astonishing 12-micron/0.48 mil; half of the current market minimum limit.

Technical breakthroughs
As a result of intensive collaboration with the meat and dairy industry, a patent pending label design named Shrink PS will be presented. The new label, pre-applied on a shrinkable bag, does not wrinkle during the shrinking process in heated water, allows superior definition graphics and is water resistant.

Finally, Avery Dennison will launch a new Global MDO film label with a next-generation adhesive for a no-label sophisticated shelf-look and high speed manufacturing applications. This superb conformable film delivers a unique combination of clarity, conformability, rigidity, sustainability and productivity.

Market segments
For those visitors looking for ideas in specific markets, the booth offers over 20 recently introduced and over half a dozen new innovations spread over seven different segments. They vary from blood bag labels for the pharmaceutical industry, and sustainable cane fiber material for wine and spirits, to Roll Fed Shrink technology for beer and beverage and a new entry level food film for clear-on-clear applications. Specific attention will be on digital applications, sustainable solutions and performance and efficiency-enhancing technologies.

A Fortune 500 company based in Pasadena, California, Avery Dennison helps make brands more inspiring and the world more intelligent.
