Durst, the leader in inkjet
innovation for industrial imaging applications, is at the Label Expo ’14
conference and trade show this week with its Tau LFS 330 (Laser Finishing
System) UV Inkjet Digital Label Press, a complete workflow solution for digital
labels and specialty packaging. Label
Expo ’14 takes place Sept. 9-11 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in
Rosemont.
Also on display in Durst booth
#5901 is a standard-configuration Tau 330 – the world’s first UV inkjet digital
imager to print on a 13-inch web. Both
utilize Durst’s unique low-migration / low-odor inks – developed for the
industrial label, primary food packaging and pharmaceutical segments, but
optimal for any application that will benefit from higher-quality, precise
imaging.
To fully explain the capabilities
of the Tau LFS 330, Tau 330 and low-migration / low-odor inks Durst hosted a
press conference in the center’s Press Conference Room (#13). Helmuth Munter,
Durst’s Worldwide Product Manager for Tau, and Christopher Howard, Vice
President of the company’s U.S. Industrial Segment Business, was on hand to
deliver remarks and answer questions. Howard also participated in a Conference
Program panel discussion, titled “Inkjet Technologies: Printing, Substrates and Inks for
High-Performance Labels.” In addition, Durst conducted live demos of the Tau
330 and Tau LFS 330 each day at its Booth #5901 on the Label Expo exhibit
floor.

– it also expands the range of applications and options you can offer to

Tau LFS 330
Durst’s Tau LFS 330 integrates a
new in-line digital laser finishing system into the Tau 330, incorporating state-of-the-art
laser die cutting technology from Spartanics and a powerful 1,000-watt laser
that delivers precise speed matching, automatic job changeovers and a
significant reduction in waste. This permits the management of multiple jobs in
a single pass and virtually uninterrupted printing for previously unattainable
productivity.
While delivering high image
quality output in a total digital end-to-end workflow, the Tau LFS 330 also
achieves superior print and cut quality on a broad range of substrates –
papers, films, polyester, polycarbonates, metalized material and more. It offers high flexibility in terms of
cutting applications – including kiss, through, perforate, engrave, mark and
score. UV coating, lamination and slitting options can be added to the system
for more finishing versatility.
Tau 330
The Tau 330 – the only UV inkjet
digital label press on the market with a High-Definition Print Mode – is
designed for short- and medium-run narrow web applications, in widths from
6.5-13.0 inches, running at print speeds up to 157 ft. per minute and
delivering sharp, precise images. Production capacity can reach 10,225 square
feet per hour. The capabilities of Durst’s newest label press translate into
remarkable flexibility and productivity for smaller label jobs. The Tau 330 is
also available in an 8-inch-wide version.
Sharp, precise, “best in class”
print quality for today’s most demanding applications is made possible thanks
to Durst’s proprietary single-pass UV inkjet technology featuring Xaar 1001
print heads. With its innovative drop-on-demand, variable drop size and gray
scale capabilities, the Tau 330 achieves an apparent image resolution of more
than 1,000 dpi.
Color configurations are
virtually unlimited to cover a vast majority of requested label printing
applications. The Tau 330 prints white
UV ink, which is essential for applications on transparent substrates. Its standard color configuration CMYK can be
complemented with orange and violet to provide up to 90 percent coverage of the
Pantone color gamut.
The Tau 330’s UV inks are
formulated for durability. This is an especially important quality for such
demanding applications as product identification labels, UL recognized
components, consumer electronic equipment labels, outdoor equipment and power
tool labels, and any other application in which the label must perform during
the whole product lifetime.
