Asia’s premiere labels and packaging conference Shift_019 comes to India

Happening from 8 to 9 May 2019 at Novotel Aerocity New Delhi, SHIFT_019 is Asia’s premiere labels and packaging conference. The two-day conference will be filled with enlightening presentations, thought-provoking discussions and networking opportunities, with the aim to transform print and packaging businesses. The conference will feature table-tops from leading and supporting manufacturers to showcase the latest product and developments for the labels and packaging industry.

Past editions have been held in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. For the first time ever, the event will be held in India to highlight the rapidly growing packaging market in India. In addition, delegates from past year’s event have signalled their interest and support for the destination.

“Asia, and especially India, has been tapped to lead the growth of the packaging industry through to 2025,” said Paul Callaghan, chairman of Packaging & Print Innovation Asia. “Supported by leading packaging suppliers and associations, the conference will be filled with the latest information to help any company in packaging production grow in the coming years.”

Each year, the conference attracts business owners and suppliers, packaging printers, converters, brand owners and designers. Organised by Asia Print Awards Management (formerly known as AFTA), the conference was similarly titled SHIFT_018 in last year’s edition. This year, the same thread was continued with SHIFT_019.

Meet SMI at Stall 2F16 at Gulf Print Pack 2019 between 15-18 April 2019

SMI Coated Products Private Limited, the leading Indian Label Stock Solutions Provider, has been supplying to UAE Label Printers from India for over a decade. The clients used to buy slit material as well as jumbo reels. However, the clients had to collate a container load order every time. Before SMI started supplies, clients of this region would have to plan for 2-3 months as that was the lead time then. SMI then started supplies from India and the lead time was brought down to three to four weeks time.

SPGPrints’ new RSI III rotary screen integration module offers improved uptime, reliability and waste reduction

SPGPrints’ new RSI III – the third generation of its rotary screen printing integration module for label and packaging presses – features time, safety and ergonomic innovations for increased production efficiency. Operator safety has been augmented with the introduction of guards to prevent contact with the rotating screen, squeegee pipe and gear wheels, significantly reducing the risk of injury.

A new web-cleaning scraper, positioned on a guiding roller immediately after the nip between the screen and substrate, automatically removes undesired ink splashes on the web that may have spilled from the screen during stoppages or slow-rotation mode. Operated only for the first one-and-a-half screen rotations at the start of the production run, the scraper ensures thorough drying of the substrate at all times. This minimises the risk of ink contaminating the rollers, thereby reducing the cleaning requirement.   Its long-life plastic blade collects the UV-curable ink in a pan attached to the scraper, which is easily removed for fast cleaning.

Synthetic paper is gaining prominence, replacing pulp paper in several applications

Synthetic paper came into existence as replacement for pulp based paper in areas where trees were scarce and crude oil was relatively cheaper. Synthetic paper created a niche for itself in applications where durability, weather resistance and security were desired. Over a period of time, synthetic paper has evolved technically and is now printable with most of the prevalent printing technologies. This has led to its easy adoption in the printing and packaging space.

Expanding the market:
Growing environmental concerns and steps taken by governments coupled with rising need for packaging and labeling in packaged food & beverages is leading to growth of synthetic paper in the market; tags and labels being the major growth area.
