Blue Prism Digital installs Insignia6
California-based packaging
specialist has invested in Rollem’s Insignia6 flexo-magnetic die cutter to
fully control the design and production process in-house. Insignia6’s ability
to convert intricate applications on a wide variety of substrates and
thicknesses allows Blue Prism to offer faster turnaround with sustaining
complete control and no down time.
“Our team is utilizing the
Insignia in a variety of ways to expand our packaging line. Having the in-house
control over the entire design, production and delivery process positions Blue
Prism Digital to respond quickly to our clients’ needs’, said Barbara
Buschmann, founder of Blue Prism Digital.
Bitek to launch new anytron digital laser die-cutter
Korean die-cutter manufacturer
Bitek Technology Inc’s anytron brand will launch a compact size new digital
laser die-cutter ‘any-CUT II’ (pictured) at Labelexpo Europe 2019. This is all-in-one unit that has
web-guide, laminating, laser cutting, scrap paper removal, slitting and two
re-winders. One of the most prominent features of this system is an auto-job
changeover. It requires no manual work when it is operated. It does so by
reading a barcode of the individual job. Hence, the cutting data is changed
automatically without requiring any manual work.
Also, anytron will introduce
add-on unit for any-CUT II that called ‘any-link‘ which acts as a buffer that
synchronizes the speed between the printer and the laser die cutter. It makes
it easy to connect the digital printer that a customer may wish to use with
any-CUT II. It is specially designed to create a 100% digital in-line system without
replacing the current printer.
Focus to demonstrate latest servo and digital innovations
Focus Label Machinery will be
demonstrating its latest machinery with servo and digital solutions at the
forefront, for the short and medium print run business. This includes the
launch of a new generation of the popular Proflex compact flexo press with open
architecture print head design. The Proflex SE is a fully servo driven, modular
press available in print widths of 250mm and 330mm.
The new model benefits from
touch screen HMI operator interface panels with fully programmable digital
platforms. The new features have decreased set up time and material wastage, resulting
in reduced downtime and higher productivity. The operator can control all
aspects of press operation, from any of the HMI panels, and can store job
information for future retrieval on repeat orders.
Also on display is the d-Flex
digital inkjet press, which incorporates the latest high-speed full-colour
Konica Minolta inkjet technology into the existing Reflex servo press. Visitors
will be able to see high quality variable images, overprinted in perfect
register with UV flexo ink, then converted and rewound – in a single pass with
speeds up to 50m/min.
Also showcased is the E-Flex, a
new flexo/digital combination press platform designed to meet the demands of
medium and short run business. Focus will show a 6 colour, 330mm wide press,
equipped with a full UV drying and chill roll system.

PACKage Printing Pavilion makes its Vegas debut
The PACKage Printing Pavilion at
Pack Expo Las Vegas and co-located Healthcare Packaging Expo (Sept. 23-25,
2019; Las Vegas Convention Center) produced by PMMI, The Association for
Packaging and Processing Technologies, will showcase the latest innovations in
digital printing.
This 35,000-square foot area,
located in the Central Hall, brings digitally charged end users challenged with
SKU proliferation, micromarketing efforts, sustainability and traceability face
to face with OEMs ready to deliver solutions. The Pavilion new to the Vegas
event focuses on the advantages of digital printing; geared toward short-run,
on-demand, cost-effective, variable data and personalized packaging. As
consumers look for smarter packaging options, the advancements in digital
printing are more critical than ever, making this pavilion a must-see for all
show attendees.
Memjet partner shows the future of on-demand direct-to-shape printing
Memjet announces that OPM Europa
BV in Tilburg, Netherlands, has combined robotics and Memjet’s VersaPass
technology to create a direct-to-shape printer called LabelSaver. OPM’s
LabelSaver integrates its own robotic system with the Memjet-powered Trojan
Label print engine and proprietary coatings to create a self-moving printer
that shows the possibilities of label-less production.
In recent years, the
proliferation of SKUs and increased demand for short-run labels have driven
small manufacturers to look for more economical ways to label their products.
Dursun Acun, founder and European sales director at OPM Europa BV, set out to
provide a solution to this challenge by integrating robotics into label
production to create label-less production that would improve the speed, cost
and environmental impact of label printing.
Once Acun developed the robotic
technology, he needed a printing technology that could bring the device to life
and support his goals of efficiency, economy and improved environmental impact.
After considering several technologies, Acun chose to work with Trojan Label
and include Memjet’s VersaPass printing technology in his solution. Memjet’s
combination of innovation, speed, simplicity and affordability made it the
right choice for the LabelSaver solution.
Shorter setup times and new quality assurance options in focus
At this year’s Labelexpo Europe (September
23-27 in Brussels), BST eltromat International and Nyquist Systems will show
new options for web monitoring and 100% inspection with the systems in the

beginning of 2019. Under the slogan “perfecting your performance,” BST eltromat
and Nyquist will be exhibiting the current results of their collaboration with
Hybrid Software at two exhibition booths in hall 5 (booths D23 and E05). Hybrid
Software is one of the world’s leading providers of innovative solutions for PDF-based
pre-press-stage workflows and linkups to management information systems (MIS).
The collaboration has enabled the two companies to considerably simplify and
speed up setup processes in label printing (including quality assurance).
Visitors in Brussels will also see the latest options for the QLink workflow,
which integrates quality assurance into the pre-press stage, printing, and
assembly. More detailed technical options and features for the TubeScan product
range will be shown at the Nyquist booth. Alongside 100% inspection, the BST
eltromat booth will also be presenting the company’s entire range for quality
assurance in narrow-web processes – from web guiding, web monitoring, and
register control to color measurement, color management, and workflow
solutions.

Xeikon adds valuable features to its Panther technology
Xeikon has developed a specific
solution for printers looking to enhance and increase their range of labels. It
is the unique combination of the Xeikon X-800 workflow and the PantherCure UV
ink that can generate a tactile layer, responsible for a so called “haptic
effect” in print. Printers can easily create designer labels with enhanced
tactility, textures and a luxury feel. Xeikon’s new haptic printing process not
only boosts and expands the range of possible applications for high-end label
markets, it helps make significant time savings by avoiding any modifications
to the prepress files. Tactile effects on labels are greatly appreciated by the
beer, beverage, food, and Health & Beauty markets.

Interested in adding new
technology, the Albéa head office in France reached out to Nilpeter once again,
and after a comprehensive vetting process with testing, trials, and visits with
competing suppliers, chose Nilpeter’s All New FA to be installed in India,
Poland, and Brazil. In addition to the advanced technology of the new FA, the
high ease of use, and impressive press performance with tough laminate tube
materials, Albéa emphasized Nilpeter’s global support setup, worldwide reach,
and 24/7 hotline for troubleshooting and live technical assistance. The new
FA-presses will be put to good use in the fields of laminate tubes for oral
care packaging, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other various personal care
applications.
